We study continuities and discontinuities in the transmission of maltreatment and psychopathology across generations. We collaborate closely with investigators on the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study and two of its sub-studies (the Parenting Study and the Next Generation Study) to understand the conditions under which risk for psychopathology is transmitted from parents to children. We also collaborate closely with Professor Cathy Spatz Widom at John Jay College of Criminal Justice to better understand the intergenerational transmission of maltreatment, its impact on offspring psychopathology, and how it can be disrupted.
